Invitation to Join the Ontario Green Energy Act Alliance
June 2, 2008 - Toronto

Dear potential Green Energy Act Alliance member:

We would like to invite you to participate in an exciting campaign that will affect all Ontarians, which will be launched with a briefing at Queen’s Park on June 2, 2008 at 9:00 am.

The opportunity exists to create a vibrant renewable energy economy and develop a conservation culture, in line with Premier McGuinty’s vision.

The campaign for a Green Energy Act will ensure that this vision becomes a reality.

The Steering Committee for the Green Energy Act campaign is being chaired by Kristopher Stevens, Executive Director of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association. The other members of the committee are Roger Peters of the Pembina Institute, Rick Smith of Environmental Defence, Jose Etcheverry of the David Suzuki Foundation, Bruce Lourie of the Ivey Foundation, Don McCabe of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Michael Fox of the First Nations Energy Alliance and Deb Doncaster of the Community Power Fund.

The Green Energy Act campaign welcomes your participation to:

  • Reinforce the commitment to conservation and renewable energy
  • Establish a ‘roadmap’ to conservation and green energy and address gaps in the present plans including removing barriers to ensure renewables get on line
  • Take advantage of the clean slate that is Ontario’s electricity system, which requires an estimated $60 billion to expand and reinforce the grid and bring on new generation
  • Identify our opportunities and copy best practices to capitalize on them, just as we did with the RESOP

We are looking to build a broad-based alliance to support the campaign.

As an Alliance member, we would like you to assist in the development of policy recommendations and background documents, promote the campaign to your members and engage in dialogue with other key stakeholders. You will be added to our distribution list and we will add your logo to the website (www.greenenergyact.ca).

We will keep you informed of developments through a regular email update and periodic consultation sessions that are being planned, as well as by providing information on the website.

We hope that you are interested in participating in the Ontario Green Energy Act campaign and look forward to working with you.

For more information please contact me at 416-303-1201 or Kristopher@ontario-sea.org and visit www.GreenEnergyAct.ca.

Best regards,

Kristopher Stevens
Executive Director, OSEA
Chair, Green Energy Act Steering Committee
