Ontario Green Energy Act
Proposed Green Energy Act

On December 10th at Queens Park in Toronto, a proposed draft of the Ontario green energy act was released titled: "An Act Granting Priority to Renewable Energy Sources to Manage Global Climate Change, Protect the Environment and Streamline Project Approvals".  Some of the issues the draft  focuses on includes the following:

  • green energy procurement
  • financing green energy
  • community energy
  • engaging First Nations and Métis communities
  • grid upgrades and evolution
  • conservation
  • protecting the environment

Strong action is needed to make Ontario a global leader in the development of renewable energy, clean distributed energy and conservation, creating thousands of jobs, economic prosperity, energy security, and climate protection.

Public bodies, aboriginal communities, labour and rate-payers share an interest in the generation of electricity that ensures the adequacy, safety, sustainability and reliability of electricity supply in Ontario.  Through responsible and innovative planning and management of electricity resource and  supply & demand, the needs of present and future generations can be met.

The purpose of this Act is to facilitate the development of a sustainable energy economy which would:

  • Protect the environment while streamlining and improving the environmental and planning approvals process
  • mitigate climate change
  • engage communities and build a world-class green industrial sector
  • enable all Ontarians to participate and benefit from green energy as conservers and generators, at the lowest cost to consumers.

We want to make this an act for all Ontarians, so after reading the document send us your feedback and suggestions!
